AMTD has been a long time key promoter & contributor to Asia’s innovative economy
Throughout the years, AMTD acts relentlessly to showcase Hong Kong and Asia’s innovation power, connect the Greater Bay Area with ASEAN, and also connect Asia with the world. We are the strategic partner for the Hong Kong FinTech Week for two consecutive years, and the founding grand sponsor for the Singapore FinTech Festival for three consecutive years. We are the only Hong Kong based financial institution among the global strategic partners of the World Economic Forum. We are the first corporate founding member of ASEAN Financial Innovation Network (AFIN) which is jointly established by International Finance Company, Monetary Authority of Singapore and ASEAN Bankers Association. Calvin Choi, Chairman and CEO of AMTD, has been appointed to serve as a Director of AFIN. Recently, together with AFIN, we launched a SGD 50 million AMTD ASEAN Solidarity Fund to help ASEAN FinTech start-ups to pull through this difficult time resulting from the pandemic. To honour his contribution of promoting global FinTech development, Calvin Choi was awarded “Asia FinTech Leader” by Singapore Fintech Association in 2019, “Young Global Leader” by World Economic Forum in 2017, and “Global FinTech Finance 35” by Institutional Investor Magazine in 2016. Calvin has also been appointed as an Advisory Board member to the Cyberport in 2020.
AMTD endeavours to cultivate talents & support young entrepreneurs in the Greater Bay Area
We set up the first university-industry collaborative FinTech Centre in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and spawned Hong Kong’s first FinTech doctoral program; we launched the University of Waterloo – AMTD Innovation Hub to support the Global Talent Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme; we set up the Singapore Digital Finance Leadership program with Singapore Management University, National University of Singapore and Xiaomi Finance. We also initiated the Greater Bay Young Entrepreneurs Association (GBYEA) to promote start-ups in the Greater Bay Area, stimulate their healthy and rapid development, and improve their core competitiveness. Annual meetings for GBYEA were hosted by AMTD in Davos, Switzerland for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020.
We actively support a range of corporate social responsibility activities, such as sponsoring for 10 consecutive years the Caritas Charity TV Show, which is one of Hong Kong longest history fund raising events to support social work, education and medical care to meet the needs of people at different stages of life. AMTD is a key supporter of amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research), one of the world’s leading non-profit organisations on AIDS research. During the COVID-19 pandemic, AMTD donated one hundred thousand face masks to Hong Kong citizens, and donated RMB 2 million as well as essential medical supplies to Hubei Province.
