AXA Asia partners with Columbia University WHO Center for Global Mental Health to help companies protect employees’ mental health during and post-COVID-19

by | Jun 16, 2020

With the pandemic’s centre of gravity moving away from Asia, the region has begun to celebrate positive trends in the fight against COVID-19. A significant milestone has been for our colleagues across Asia to return to the office.

As we approached this process, we recognised that the pandemic has also put renewed pressure on longstanding concerns over mind health, including in the workplace. Even before the pandemic, 37% of people in Hong Kong have at some point in their lifetime experienced mental ill health while in employment, and the anxiety and disruption of these past few months have brought new challenges. Access to care can be a challenge, which is why we believe companies have a responsibility to support their employees by creating a supportive environment where they can protect their mind health.

As a result, AXA Asia has taken this opportunity to put it on the leadership agenda by partnering with the Columbia-WHO Centre for Global Mental Health to create a unique, free resource for leaders and managers.

Supporting Mental Health of Employees During and Beyond COVID-19 is an in-depth guide, which focuses on how to support mental health among employees, including expected concerns, likely stressors, and guidance for managers on how to talk to team members who may be experiencing mental stress. A second guide — Return to Workplace Practical Guide During and Beyond COVID-19 provides practical tips and resources to help employees and employers upon their return to the workplace.

Aligned with our commitment to creating shared value, AXA Asia is proud to have developed these assets so that companies that take action now, can reassure staff and ensure they’re supported, putting them in the best position to navigate the path to recovery. A strategic focus on mental health also turns this into an opportunity to tackle this issue for the longer term, resulting in a healthier and more productive workplace and, ultimately, a happier society. In doing so, we can help to stave off a potential hidden pandemic of mental health.

The guides are available for download and feel free to share the links with your personal or business contacts.
